Dreaming Tree
Young Walt would daydream under this old Cottonwood tree, observing nature that surrounded him. He made reference to these adventures as "belly botany" and it was obvious he learned a lot from these moments. In his early works you can see that he applied these lessons. Whenever he would return to Marceline, Missouri, Walt would always find the time to return to his Disney Dreaming Tree, just for the opportunity to to reflect beneath it's boughs, as he did so many times during his youth. Oftentimes he would spend many hours there, alone with his thoughts. Apparently never outgrew this need for inspiration here at his favorite spot.
The Disney Dreaming Tree still stands today, although it looks a little older and weather has taken it's toll on some of the branches, but it still inspires visitors to sit beneath it's boughs, just as Walt did many years ago. Did you know that Walt Disney personally gave the kids of Marceline Missouri (Walt's Hometown) a ride from Disneyland? It was the Disneyland Midget Autopia, in 1966. This ride has now fallen into disrepair due to weather and other elements that have taken their toll on the Autopia. We now have the opportunity to make history again, by restoring and making the Midget Autopia ride a major Museum attraction once again!
